Seymour Gable Hood

Description

Various views of my gable hood created to go with my Seymour gown. Note that the striped silk band that would go across the forehead was not in place in these pictures...the fabric hadn't arrived when I took photos! (Rest assured I had it sewn in before Faire!) The striped silk was tacked in and acted like a hat band, holding the hood in place. It was actually very secure and I didn't feel like I was doing a balancing act all day.

Media: Silk, linen, cotton velveteen, buttons!

Top left: Back view. Note the hand-made "button" in the center.
Top middle: Detail from Holbein's "Two Views of a Lady Wearing an English Hood"
Top right: Front view. "Jeweled" ouches are buttons...I painted the centers with garnet nail polish to make them look like garnet cabochons.
Middle left: Detail of the Seymour portrait. Note the bottom of the frame (around the face) bends out and has a slight point to the sides of the fabric. You can't see the bend in the top right photo (it was more obvious when worn), but I did get the bottom hemmed to match. (I'm proud of the little details!)
Middle right: Front 3/4 view with one tail pinned up like in the portrait.
Bottom left: Side view with tail pinned up.
Bottom right: Back 3/4 view showing back of the "box".

I love your English hood!  I'm looking at making one as well.  What size pearls did you use?  Also any tips on where to find the square / filigree jems like those?  Thanks!
